My name is Carole Goodman, and I have been working as a freelance graphic designer since 1998. I am also an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Queens College, City University of New York, where I was hired to help found the Graphic Design major.
Clients typically bring me in at the start of a project to take an idea and form it into an engaging message, examining the intersection of content and meaning with form and function. I have expertise in all aspects of graphic design including visual research, design, production, and overseeing printing and manufacture. Most of my clients have re-hired me numerous times over the years to work on a wide scope of projects from books to branding.
As a design educator, I work with a large international student body (a fantastic reflection of the borough of Queens itself), which has brought an exciting dimension of internationalization into the classroom. I address this through projects and programs such as "Viva la Differencia," a self-portrait project organized by a Cuban design professor with universities around the world.
My work at Queens College has inspired my interest in exploring cross-culturalism in my professional work such as in the exhibition at Waikato Institute in New Zealand, "The Means By Which We Find Our Way." I also have a strong connection to the Cuban design community and have had the honor of visiting Havana twice for design exhibitions: "Shared Dreams" and "Cultural Diversity," at the Museo Nacional Bellas Artes.
I have presented articles on multi-cultural education at the ICOGRADA World Design Conference, the University and College Design Association, School of Visual Arts National Conference, and the AIGA Social Studies Conference. My professional work has received awards from organizations and publications including: AIGA, Type Director's Club, Western Art Director's Club, Communication Arts, Print, Step Inside Design, and How.
Thanks for visiting! It would be great to hear from you.

blue anchor design
Blue Anchor is the name of the tiny rural town where I grew up in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. It is located halfway between Atlantic City and Philadelphia and is where weary sailors rested on their voyage from one city to the other during the 1800's. Currently, Blue Anchor is most famous for its blueberry farms. Growing up, its biggest landmark was Mr. Bill's Custard Stand, which featured a full-color statue of a looming Mr. Bill, standing about 50-feet tall. Us kids would stare at this giant man while we nervously licked our soft-serve cones.
